The Elliptical Path of Visual Art

The idea is clean, clear, and stands on its own, without support; it doesn’t develop and rather becomes watered down if attempts are made to follow it through with variations on a theme. The very few artists who constantly express new viewpoints and original ideas usually don’t get much attention—neither from the art market nor from museums—as they are thought to lack necessary consistency and a characteristic style in their works. But these artists are constantly at work, fresh and searching in their approximation, and they create strong works of art

An idea is researched, worked on with precision, put forward with well-defined parameters in mind and leads to a logical conclusion. The research process demands unrestrained use of materials, professionalism, and quality

The imagery is created by taking ideas from another artist; it becomes a copy of that artist’s work. The follower tries hard to put his own mark on the work, but gives up and finds another artist to copy. The follower seems unable to find influence and use it to his advantage; putting his own stamp on the work in order to personalize it is beyond him

Artistic expression, but hardly art. The creator of the work is influenced by suggestions about his own worth and the constant admiration of others. The expression lies in repeated shapes, bright colours, and smartness. This busy form of art is easily sold to gullible buyers who look for popularity rather than quality. This anaemic form of art is often on display in stores and shopping centres, carefully marketed and sold as any other product

On the one hand, a lack of independence defines these works, where artistic expression lies in embroidery, painting by numbers, or the use of mass-produced moulds to shape objects. Frames and surroundings play an important part in the representation of this bland mass production, as well as careful crafting and decoration. On the other hand, imagery that is inspired by private life or hobbies can generate an agreeable atmosphere and independence as a result of deviation in drawing or use of colour, and walks the line between art and leisure. At a snail’s pace, this art form moves in the direction of Narration

Art Simulation
Forms are expanded and there is a concentration of symbols, a vast number of details, and ornamental exuberance and decadence in the handiwork that outstrips the content. The work repels the viewer, or it drowns in its own comedic tragedy. Art simulation can be a catalyst for change if it is used as a model for different forms of art, expanded, caricatured or glorified, to freshen it up and find it a place in the current ambience of the art world. A romantic view of the nation, with a personal approximation, love and respect. Important values are a focal point, as are a return to youth and precious memories that awaken tender feelings. This emotional expression is revealed in evening landscapes, fog and mist in mountainous regions: a limited vision, an unbreakable bond of faith in the country

Imagery that expresses joy and happiness, with lively forms and symbols. It is an eye-catching art form, but it remains superficial and seldom reaches emotional depth

It is important to state that drawings by children are of a different nature, as children place themselves within the picture plane and have a nearly physical approximation. Children tell stories and describe experiences, hide things and put other things forward as suits their mood

Followers of tradition, organization and symbolic validation. Found in stagnant societies, where there are great differences in people’s standing according to family relationships and class divisions. Often the work's imagery relates to religious and initiation ceremonies, sexuality, hunting, travelling and magic. This imagery (Primitive) had a great influence on international development at the beginning of the 20th century, but also distorted people’s views of its value within the societies that had created and developed it through the ages. In the contemporary world, one can see standardized forms of imagery among groups that tend to stick together, such as sport clubs and private clubs, in their use of symbols, signs, flags and memoranda that serve to maintain unity, allegiance, stability and power

Imagery that preserves an atmosphere from the past, depicts skills and labour, and contains stories, memories, place names of landmarks, ancient gods, fairy tales, journeys and supernatural phenomena, often with detailed explanations. Events from childhood are recounted. It is also worth pointing out that people who use narrative in their creative expression tend to use biological forms, leftover materials and recyclable objects

Imagery that responds to boredom, stagnation, aggression, lack of love, bullying, jealousy, isolation, imprisonment, addiction, betrayal, loss of job, injury,  illness, loss and sorrow. On the one hand the images send a clear message and in doing so use shameless representation  and rudeness, and can express feelings that deal with nervous breakdowns, pornography and religious extremism. On the other hand, the imagery is introverted and gentle and crosses the threshold of reality into a relative world where the creator can be left to his own devices. The root of what isolated him from normal participation in society is symbolized step by step and used to protect from pain and loneliness; there is denial about what it is that bothers him and an acceptance of destiny: he hides, beautifies, forgives and forget

On the one hand, imagery that is made under the influence of hallucinatory drugs, where unreal things appear uncontrollably, often in an explosive manner. The forms are flexible, distorted and the use of colour sickly. A surgery on soul and body is performed, bringing redemption, bliss or the abyss of a nightmare. The representation has no connection to reality, but rather to an automatic response of the subconscious. On the other hand, imagery that is the result of mental instability or long-term drug use, unless both are the case. Artists who use imagery from this category clutch at straws, have close relationships with flying saucers and divine beings, may think they have a special role to play in the scheme of things and believe in messages obtained through hypersensitive hearing or perception

Tolerance, a carefree attitude towards learning, rejection of tradition and contrary behaviour. The art form is fertile in the development of new forms of expression and encourages impulsive behaviour and a lovely sense of humour, childish criticism and teasing. It is youthful, but first and foremost honest. It is interesting to see how the followers of Atmosphere often look to Art Simulation for inspiration, using the possibilities that disintegration and overload deliver and managing to connect it to their own frames of mind

A critical stance, political extremism, art history references, used to shock and bring considerable response, sometimes through performances that border on masochism

Fake science and an eccentric mindset. References to one’s own research, with abundant information and details, that confuse the viewer within the space—unless he has gone to some trouble to familiarize himself with the original idea and knows the mindset of its creator. The imagery is usually beautiful and effective, and if the viewer can enjoy the work without outside pressure, he will immediately become an admirer of the artist
